Andrew Bocking, who formally led BlackBerry Messenger, has been named production manager of Facebook's Internet.org app
One of the BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) executives who left the companyearlier this year has found a new job. Former BBM chief Andrew Bocking is going to Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), where he will oversee the social network’s newest app.

Bocking had been in charge of BlackBerry’s popular messaging add BBM, and now, he will take over Internet.org, which launched last week in Zambia. Re/code reports that a spokesperson for Facebook has confirmed that Bocking has taken the position but did not offer any additional comments on his position at the social network.Internet.org is Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to bring free Internet services to developing countries. He intends to offer certain services like, of course, Facebook, as well as Wikipedia, Google Search, AccuWeather, Zambia uReport, Messenger and others. The social network launched the initiative first in Zambia and intends to roll it out to other parts of the globe gradually. Bocking will oversee all future versions of the Internet.org in addition to the current version that’s out in Zambia.
Bocking was with BlackBerry for over 13 years, and he knows how to gradually roll apps out internationally. While he worked on BBM, his main focus was on pushing the app out into developing markets, including Africa and southeastern Asia.
Facebook has been focusing on Internet.org for about a year ago. Last summer, Zuckerberg unveiled his initiative, which is to get everyone in the world connected to the Internet. The new app offered by Facebook is the very first one to offer not only access to Facebook itself but also to other free services. The social network has been partnering with data providers for some time to offer free temporary access to its website, but this new app goes beyond those partnerships.
The Android version of the Internet.org app offers Airtel subscribers in Zambia access to the free services through the app itself, the Internet.org website or the Facebook for Android app.

Microsoft Opens Windows 10 for Apple and Android Apps

Microsoft’s awaited OS Windows 10 is set to be adaptable to the popular apps on Apple and Android devices, a company executive announced on Wednesday in the company’s annual press conference.
In a bid to get more users for its software Windows 10, Microsoft will be releasing tools for its software to accept and operate some of the popular apps that are being run on other devices.
“Windows 10 represents a new generation of Windows, built for an era of more personal computing,” CEO Satya Nadella said during a keynote speech, adding that ‘today’s consumers and corporate workers want to have the same experience when they are using a variety of devices’.
As of now, there are more than 1.4 million apps for Android phones and about the same for Apple devices, while there are only a few hundred thousand apps that work on Windows phones and tablets. Microsoft intends to not let this demographic stand in the way of a successful reception for Windows 10, according to a ITPW/news report.
Better speed and performance from the #GalaxyS6 and #GalaxyS6edge

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge come with some of the most advanced hardware features in the market to give you better performance and speed with optimized power consumption.

14nm mobile processor and 64-bit CPU

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have the world’s first 14nm Exynos 7420 mobile processor to increase processing speeds. The 14nm FinFET Exynos 7420 Octa-core processor shows speeds of 2.1 GHz for Cortex-A57 cores and 1.5 GHz for Cortex-A53 cores.

The upgrade from a 28nm processor to a 14nm processor reduces power consumption by around 30 percent compared to the previous model. A smaller manufacturing size is better because shorter transistor distances consume less energy and boost processing speeds. Although smaller, closely packed transistors can lead to current leakage between parts of the chip, an issue that FinFET manufacturing addresses by enclosing the conducting channel in a thin silicon “fin”.

The 14nm processor also supports new 64-bit CPU. The new Android Lollipop operating system is also optimized for 64-bit processors. The new devices are also the first to come with the LPDDR4 memory system, which means around a 30 percent performance boost compared to the LPDDR3 used for previous models.

Universal Flash Storage 2.0

The internal memory on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge comes with the new UFS (Universal Flash Storage) 2.0 standards, giving you faster boot, copy and file transfers without compensating for battery power or memory performance.

This new technology combines eMMC’s low power consumption and the SATA interface’s high performance to optimize performance. This means you can watch videos, run multiple applications, play high bandwidth games and download large files without causing lags or delays.

UFS 2.0 is essentially the equivalent of taking your PC’s SSD storage and fitting it into your Galaxy S6. This is possible because UFS 2.0 has separate read/write paths for the LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling) serial interface that allows simultaneous data receipt and transmission for faster data processing.

Over the next several years, Samsung will continue to set the pace for memory solutions that combine high-performance with high capacity.
